Johnny
Wilson comes to the HRC after a life-long career in coaching and
playing squash. Following his father, who placed second in the
over-45 World Masters Games, Johnny started playing the game as
soon as he could walk.
A gold medal winner in the Canadian Team Championships, Johnny
has held the #2 position in British Columbia rankings, and #6
in Canadian rankings. He has coached squash professionally across
Canada and the USA, and has provided squash clinics in England,
Singapore, Australia, Germany and Holland. He was the Assistant
National Elite coach for Malaysia in preparation for the 1997
Commonwealth Games, and the South African Western Province junior
team coach for the national Jarvis Cup Team Championships.
Johnny’s dedication to developing a lively junior program
was recognized when he was presented with the Squash Ontario Outstanding
Coaching Award for 2007. He also led the Ottawa Junior Team to
the Ontario Team Championship gold medal in 2011 for the first
time in the tournament’s history. Having played tournaments
himself as a junior, Johnny knows what is required to play at
a junior competitive level, and as a result is able to help young
athletes work their way through the squash circuit. |
