We are working hard to prepare the Club to reopen, and wanted to share the new health and safety measures we have put in place to keep you safe during these unprecedented times.

HRC has always been a place where members can feel welcomed and comfortable.  We have also always been committed to providing our community with the highest level of cleanliness. This commitment is important now more than ever.  As a result, we are further enhancing our club cleaning procedures and health guidelines to ensure your safety.

Effective October 21, 2020

In accordance with guidance from our local health unit to help curb the spread of COVID-19, our Guest Policy has been updated.  This policy is to help keep our members, staff and community safe. 

Until further notice, all guests for drop-in use and court play must reside within the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health in order to access the club. Guests will be required to show proof of address (i.e. Driver’s License, Passport, Utility Bill).

All guests registered in programs are exempt from this policy

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health  includes the following:

The club will reopen to members and guests on Monday, July 27 at 6:30 AM

The following services and amenities will be available to members and their guests.

As of June 12th, the Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin Health Unit requires all members, guests, and staff to wear masks in all common areas of the club including locker room, washrooms, hallways, viewing gallery etc.


Face Masks are NOT required while participating in physical activities in the Main Gym, Personal Training, Group Fitness & Rev classes, as well as on the squash and tennis courts.  


Members and guests must bring their own face mask to wear. HRC will not be providing masks. 

It is recommended members bring something (i.e. container, brown paper bag, sandwich bag) to store their mask in while physically active.

We understand is it uncertain times and that everyone’s personal situation is unique. To ensure all members come back when they are ready to enjoy all HRC has to offer we are offering a temporary leave of absence option for $8 +HST bi-weekly,  or free with a doctor's note of an underlying medical condition


Members must send their temporary leave of absence request, in writing, to [email protected]

The Temporary Leave of Absence will be available to members until September 27th at which point the membership will return to active status and regular dues will apply.

As these are temporary changes due to government regulations in order to keep members, staff and our community safe we will not be reducing membership dues. 

The club must continue to maintain the highest level of cleanliness and service our members are accustomed to. 

Standard membership terms and conditions continue to apply.

You may cancel your membership at the end of your membership term.  All memberships (except REV) are a 12-month financial commitment and REV membership - 3- month financial commitment.

Squash Ontario Return-to-Play guidelines set out the type of play and how play is facilitated as required under the Ontario Emgerency Orders. 

We continue to receive updates from Squash Ontario and will lift restrictions on play as they become available.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. 

Deep Cleaning
  • The club will go through a full deep clean prior to reopening to members. 
  • A new hydrostatic disinfectant sprayer (aka "The fogger") and Oxivir® Plus Disinfectant will be used after each Group Fitness and Rev class, as well as daily in the main gym. 
  • A third party cleaning provider will clean & disinfect the club twice daily in addition to HRC staff members' regular high-touch cleaning throughout the club. 
  • All staff members will complete extensive training on cleaning & disinfecting protocols. 
Self Cleaning

We all have an important role to play in keeping our club safe for everyone to enjoy. 

  • Additional hand sanitizers are located throughout the club, as well as, our new Oxivir Plus Disinfectant spray bottles (Product is hospital-grade and approved by Health Canada) that will be used to wipe down all equipment and high touch areas.
  • Members must wipe down equipment before and after use.
Enhanced Protocols

To ensure the safety of all members, guests and staff we have implemented enhanced protocols: 

  • HVAC system has gone through an extensive maintenance review with new air filters installed and all system settings updated to ensure the highest level of air quality. 
  • Contact shields have been installed at Front Desk.
  • Mandatory use of PPE, including masks, by all staff, with exception of Group Fitness Instructors while teaching. 
  • Recommended Forms of Payment – Credit, Debit or Charge to Account 
Screening Protocol

The following screening protocol will be in place until further notice. 

  • All members will be manually checked-in by Front Desk staff.
  • Upon entry, Members and Staff will be required to answer Health Screening Question
  • Members are required to wear a mask or face covering while in all common areas (e.g. hallways, squash hall, locker rooms). Masks will not be provided. 
Main Gym Area

To adhere to social distancing restrictions certain pieces of equipment will temporarily be unavailable until further notice.


It is the responsibility of all members and staff to comply with the safety etiquette policy that has been implemented: 

  • Members are required to wear a face mask when Checking-In at the Front Desk 
  • Members are required to wipe down equipment before and after use with the Oxivir Plus disinfectant spray bottles and paper towel provided throughout the gym. 
  • Follow floor markings to assist with physical distancing.

Capacity Control Measures 

At the present time, no appointment will be required to use the Main Gym Area. Capacity will be controlled by all members checking in and out at the Front Desk using our new capacity check-in software. If the gym is at capacity members a member will be required to wait until another member exits.  

This is subject to change and will be monitored closely. 

Are Face Masks Required?

As per Wellington- Dufferin Health Unit updated face mask order, face coverings are not required to be worn when in the main gym working out.  Face coverings are required in all common areas of the club including the locker room. 

It is strongly recommended to bring something to store your mask while in the gym (i.e. brown paper lunch bag, sandwich bag, Tupperware container etc.) 

Group Fitness and Rev Classes

HRC has adopted the "Practicing Social Distancing in Group Fitness" model developed by MOSSA

Group Fitness classes have been modified to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all members.  Members should expect reduced class options and class sizes that will support social distancing and contact tracing measures. 

Individual workout spots will be marked and members must stay within their designated spot. 



All members must sign up for all group fitness classes via HRConline or by calling the Front Desk.



Members are to arrive only 10 minutes prior to the start of their scheduled classes. Late arrivals will NOT be allowed entry into the class.  

Members will check-in at the Front Desk and will proceed to their class.  In class sign-in sheets are no longer required. 



Staff will set up all class equipment in designated spots at the beginning of each class in order to ensure social distancing is adhered to. 

At the end of the class members will leave equipment and exit the studio immediately with the workout spots closest to the door exiting first. 

Staff will clean and disinfect equipment and set-up for the next class.

Personal Training

Personal Training services will be available upon reopening.  The following guidelines have been created to ensure we reduce the potential for contact between Client and Trainer. 

  • Personal Training Sessions will continue to be booked by your Personal Trainer
  • There will be no personal contact and physical distancing will be observed.
  • Clients will handle their own weights and equipment.  Personal Trainers will modify workouts so as not to require spotting
  • Personal Trainers will wear masks at all times, and gloves will be available. 
  • All equipment used will be cleaned before and after use by the Personal Trainer. 

Under the Ontario Emergency Order legislation, HRC must follow the Ontario Tennis Association's Return-to-Play guidelines.  We will continue to make updates as restrictions are lifted. 

Casual Play

  • Singles, Doubles, Privates and Small Group Lessons are Permitted.
  • Doubles Play- All players must review and adhere to the OTA How to Play Doubles Safely Guidelines
  • Courts are to be booked in advance on HRConline or by calling the Front Desk at 519-942-2255. 
  • All members are to bring their own sweat towel.
  • There are no benches or chairs. 
  • Indoor court fees will be collected via the method of payment on file in order to reduce contact with staff.
  • No physical contact (high five’s, handshakes, etc.) will be allowed.
  • All players must maintain 6ft social distancing during play.


  • Privates, Semi-Privates and Small Group Lessons (up to 4 players) are permitted.
  • Players are to maintain 6ft of social distancing
  • The collection of tennis balls is either done by the Tennis Pro or the player is given a ball tube that is disinfected at the end of each lesson.
  • No spectators are permitted until further notice.
  • Lessons are scheduled with a 15-minute cleaning & disinfecting period between groups.

Ball Machine ( Available as of August 12, 2020) 

  • Members are to retrieve balls by using the ball tube provided. 
  • Machine, ball tube and the controller will be disinfected before and after each use by a staff member. 

Under the Ontario Emergency Order legislation, the club must follow Squash Ontario's Return-to-Play guidelines.  

Permitted Squash Play  (Effective Monday, October 5, 2020) 

  • Singles Play-  two players may play squash if they are in the same household or pod
  • Solo Hitting
  • Private and Group Lessons

Singles Play Restrictions

  • Both players are in the same Pod,
  • Prolonged or deliberate contact between players is specifically avoided, and players maintain a distance of at least 2 meters between them wherever possible.
  • No Touch Let Directive: players are strictly prohibited from making any deliberate and/or prolonged contact with each other. As such, let provisions are expanded to ensure points can be re-played if there is a reasonable probability of interference and a subsequent good return. Deliberate and/or prolonged contact with your opponent will be subject to a code of conduct.
  • Be recommended that, in place of eye guards, players wear a certified face shield (such as the IMask+) and/or a mask while on the court.


  • Players may participate in singles play within a pod of 10 players max.
  • A player may only be in one pod at a time and may update their pod once per month. 
  • Pod updates can be sent to the Racquets Department at [email protected] 

General Playing Etiquette

  • Players must refrain from touching the walls or floors of the squash court.
  • Players are to wipe down door handles after use. 
  • Courts are to be booked in advance online or by calling the Front Desk during operating hours. No indoor drop-ins will be permitted at this time.
  • All members are to bring their own sweat towel and water.
  • Benches and water stations are available. 
  • No physical contact (high five’s, handshakes, etc.) will be allowed.
  • The Club will continue to evaluate these policies and reserves the right to modify as needed without prior notice.
  • Headwaters Racquet Club reserves the right to refuse service for any individual that does not follow these rules or close courts if required.

Entering and Exiting Policy 

  • Courts are to be booked in advance online or by calling the Front Desk during operating hours. No indoor drop-ins will be permitted at this time.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your court booking to allow enough time for the new check-in process.
  • Each court has a designated waiting area indicated by floor marker and signage. Members should wait in this area until the other player has left court to assist in social distancing.
  • Disinfecting spray bottles and paper towels have been placed at the entrance to the squash hall. Members are responsible for wiping door handles before and after using the courts.
  • Masks can be taken off only when the player is on the court.
  • All Members must leave the court at the end of their court booking.
  •  Members can only enter the court after the other player has exited the court and disinfected the door handles.
  • Keep moving. There is no lingering or gathering allowed in our facilities.

Private Lessons

Pre-booked private instruction will be permitted.  Please contact Leah to make arrangements. 

COVID-19 Private Guidelines as per Squash Ontario Return-to-PlayPrivate lessons must be booked in advance through the Squash Pro.

  • Players are required to wear a mask in all areas of the club until entering the squash court to play.
  • Players are to check-in at the Front Desk and complete a COVID-19 screening & temperature check.
  • No spectators are permitted inside the club unless the player is under the age of 18.  Any accompanying adult must remain outside of the court, wear a mask and maintain a two-meter distance.
  • Only one (1) student on a court at one time.
  • Balls will be provided, and only touched, by the coach.
Kids Club (Re-opening Monday, September 21st)

Kids Club will be open as of Monday, September 21st at 9:00 AM. 

Kids Clubs service will only be available to members (including challenge participants and fitness trial members). 

To adhere to public health measures there are changes in our operating hours, capacity and safety protocols.

Other Amenities


Day-use lockers are available. To ensure cleanliness and physical distancing some day-use lockers have been closed. 

Members are asked to leave the locker open after use and that will indicate to staff cleaning is required.  Closed lockers indicate they are clean and ready for use.

Showers are available for use and will be cleaned daily and disinfected twice daily.  Members are required to bring their own towels. 



All water stations throughout the club are available for use. Members are encouraged to bring their own pre-filled water to workout with. 

Membership Updates

Bi-Weekly Memberships  

All bi-weekly membership dues will automatically recommence upon the club reopening on Monday, July 27th.  As the club is reopening in the middle of a billing cycle a pro-rated amount of half your regular memberships will be charged to your account on Monday, July 27th.  

The pro-rated dues + your regular bi-weekly dues will be processed and charged to the method of payment on your account on Monday, August 3rd. 


Annual Memberships

All annual memberships expiry dates will be extended by 19 weeks, which is the length of time the club was closed for.  No action required for the extension. 


Fixed Term Memberships


All Christmas Package members will have their expiry date extended by 19 weeks. 

All 9-4 Tennis Members will receive a credit towards 2020-2021 9-4 membership.
